Not your mother's pearls.

Browsing though the Michael's Craftstore website I came across this tutorial on how to make your very own pearl statement necklace. Now I am giving you warning that the instructions may seem a little over whelming but take the project one step at a time and you should have no problems. I am posting the instructions below and would love to see what you fabulous people come up with!

Materials:
Crystazzi Pearls 6 mm Round Ecru Pearls, 83
Crystazzi Pearls 8mm Round Ecru Pearls, 102
Crystazzi Pearls 10mm Round Ecru Pearls, 52
Ribbon, 5/8-inch Black Organza, 20-inch
Ribbon, 3/16-inch Black Satin, 50-inch
Jump Rings, Silver 6mm Closed, 2
Silver Crimps, 10
Black Thread
Silver Beading Wire
Ruler
Needle (basic sewing)
Needle Nose Pliers
Crimping Pliers (optional)

Instructions:

1. Thread onto the first strand: 52-10mm pearls. Use a crimp to secure the end to a second jump ring.

2. When finishing with a crimp, bring the tail of wire back down through a few beads to conceal it and then trim off any excess after the crimp is flattened.

3. Thread onto the second strand: 52-8mm pearls. Use a crimp to secure the end to the second jump ring below the first strand.

4.Thread onto the third strand: 83-6mm pearls. Use a crimp to secure the end to the second jump ring below the second strand.

5.Thread onto the fourth strand: 79-6mm pearls. Use a crimp to secure the end to the second jump ring below the third strand.

6.Thread onto the fifth strand: 50-8mm pearls and black satin ribbon (30-inch piece). Tie the end of the ribbon in a small knot at the starting jump ring. Pierce the center of the ribbon with the beading wire after the first pearl and then continue threading pearl- ribbon-pearl-ribbon. The ribbon should weave in a zigzag pattern around the pearls (over then under and repeat). See how the pattern shows in the photo. Use a crimp to secure the end to the second jump ring. Finish the ribbon by tying it in a knot at the second jump ring and trimming any excess.

7.Cut a 20-inch piece of black organza ribbon and tie the ends onto each side 6mm jump ring to form the back of the necklace.

8.Cut two 8-inch pieces of black satin ribbon and tie small bows around each 6mm jump ring to cover the crimps and knots. A bit of simple sewing through the center of the bows can be done to secure the knots and make sure the bows don’t slip or fall out of shape.
