Theme song of the year

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

This year was definitely a challenging one. I've gotten over a horrible job, negative friends, a bad relationship, and other life challenges. After I decided to stop feeling bad for myself I realized how blessed I am and that things will change if I keep praying and doing what I'm suppose to. Overall I've learned that everyone is going to go through SOMETHING at some point in life and you just have to move forward one step at a time.

This song Get Myself Together by Robyn is my theme song for the year! Enjoy!

Fabulous Girls guide to: Ombre Hair

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

For the past two months I have been obsessing over ombre hair. I'm sure you've seen it and thought "hmm...looks like someone needs a touch up." This trend which has been seen on stars like Drew Berrymore and Raven Simone and on every red carpet this season is where your hair gradually gets lighter towards the tips.

Here's the before:

I have spent hours googling and watching Youtube videos to find the process and this weekend I decided to take the plunge. I knew it would be a challenge because my natural hair color is jet black so to go lighter I'd have to strip it. So instead of risking my hair, which I love, I added extensions. Its a super safe way to try something new and not end up with a duck tail! Here is the process.

1. As mentioned before my hair is black so I bought the lightest hair dye I could find which was Revlon's Ultra light Sun blonde #3. I followed the directions exactly to get everything mixed.

2. I applied the dye to my hair. Applying unevenly so it looks natural. Let it sit for 30 minutes. (I strongly suggest you do a strand test before applying to your whole head and if you have a relaxer please don't try)
3. I saw no color change so I reapplied and let it sit for another 30 minutes. For people with lighter hair, repeat step 2 until you reach your desired shades.

After endless attempts I realized that there was no color change so I tried my next method. Bleach!

I went to Sally's and asked a professional (I should have done this in the first place) and she directed me to this bleach. It was only $2.29 and I bought 2 packets since you will probably have to reapply to get different shades of brown.

1. I added the powder with peroxide and mixed my little life away.
2. Apply the mixture to the bottom of your hair and wait 20 minutes. This actually lifts the color from your hair so don't leave it on longer than that.
3. Wash mixture from hair and then reapply if the color is not light enough.
4.Deep condition hair and style as usual. This step is super important after putting so many chemicals on your hair.

Here are my results!

We threw a party, we threw a party! GRAMMY Noms live!

Monday, December 5, 2011

I was recently asked to be a part of the GRAMMY glam squad for the upcoming GRAMMY nomination concert Live! I was thrilled and honored because this is where fashion and music collide. Everyone tunes into music's biggest night to see who will win and what they wore. This concert did not disappoint! There was a lot of pink hair and great fashion to go with the amazing performances and the announcement of the GRAMMY nominees.

The concert aired on November 30 from the Nokia Theater LA Live in Los Angeles, CA and was hosted by the very handsome LL Cool J. The night included performances by The Band Perry, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean featuring Ludacris, Usher, Rihanna, Common, Grandmaster Flash, Lupe Fiasco, and Melle Mel. In between the performances, celebrity presenters such as Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry, read the nominees for the most anticipated categories.

Before the concert started I was stationed at the doors to find the best dressed ladies in the crowd. Once the glam ladies were found they got the red carpet treatment and had their photographs taken by a professional photographer. The pictures were then uploaded to the official GRAMMY facebook page and the grammy glam page to be tagged. Those that tweeted pictures during the show and used the hash tag GRAMMY glam saw their pictures uploaded to the live wall on the GRAMMY glam page as well.

Here are a few photos that I took while I was there and a few backstage photos!

Lady Gaga on stage dressed like a skeleton.

LL Cool J was an amazing host for the night

Katy Perry was pretty in pink

Common, Melle Mel, Grand Master Flash, and LL Cool J all on stage together for a once in a lifetime performance!

Ummm...I loveeee Jason Aldean! He surprised the crowd when he started rapping and Ludacris joined him on stage playing the electric guitar

Nicki Minaj was another pink lady!

I snuck a picture of Common backstage giving an interview. He is extremely handsome!

Don't forget to watch the 54Th GRAMMY awards this coming February! For more information go to the official GRAMMY website and follow them on twitter @TheGRAMMYS.

what I wore:GRAMMY nomination concert live!

Thursday, December 1, 2011

I want to specially thank Aidan Mattox for giving me the choice of 3 wonderful dresses to wear for the GRAMMY nominations Live concert. I was in a panic with no clue what to wear and they saved the day!

I chose to wear the Sequin Mesh Sheath dress for the night! My shoes are from Forever 21.

More pictures from the event can be seen at www.grammy.com/glam

Here are the 3 other choices that I had! Which one would you have worn?

This Aidan Mattox "cold shoulder" was my inital first choice. I fell in love with it in Nordstroms and couldn't live without it!

Kimberly from The Band Perry wore this dress in blue with a brown belt during their performances in the concert. The belt was a very nice touch!

My final option was the Sequin Skirt Blouson Dress. I loved this dress as well but let's face it...by the end of the night it would have been beige or brown for sure!

I'm super excited to be a part of the Glam Squad this year for GRAMMY season. Stay tuned for more blog post and updates on the show!

Fabulous Girl's Guide to: The Perfect Thanksgiving playlist

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Well it's time for my holiday music list! There is nothing like a great play list to set the mood for a perfect day with family and friends. If your family is anything like mine you know that everyone has their own style of music they prefer so its always a good idea to have a diverse soundtrack that everyone will love! Here are a few tips to making sure everyone has someone thing they will enjoy

1. Try your best to get people to RSVP so you know who's coming ahead of time.
2. If you are sending out invites ask guest to send one song they like via email, text, dove...etc.
3. For family gatherings think of songs that you listened to as a family in the past...this can be an icebreaker and it will put people in a good mood
4. Choose one song from a variety of music genres...MOST people don't like all rap or all alternative
5. Choose music that doesn't have offensive language especially if you are having family or young children in the room (no one wants to listen to "Dance" by Big Sean while passing the turkey)
6. All songs don't have to be directly related to the holiday.
7. It might be a wise idea to have separate list for different times during the day. For example: cooking music, dinner music, party music (my family gatherings usually turn into dance parties!)
8. Relax!! Have fun and choose music that show you want to have a good time!

Digital Download
1. Be Thankful - Natalie Cole
2. John Legend - Save Room
3. What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
4. Robyn - Indestructible
5. Thank you - Dido
6. Lykke Li- I follow Rivers
7. A Fine Frenzy- You Picked Me
8. Adele - Set Fire to the rain
9. The way you make me feel - Michael Jackson
10. Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 (my whole family loves this song)
11. God Gave me you - Blake Shelton

Dedication to Prince Truthful...

Thursday, November 17, 2011

I loveeee this song! When the big day comes this will be played. Enjoy.

"Take my hand. Take my whole life too...but I can't help falling in love with you."

Product Review: butter London

Saturday, November 12, 2011

I really want to thank Butter London and Lauren from Siren Public Relations for sending The Black Knight Nail Lacquer, Hardwear P.D Quick Topcoat Treatment, and Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat Treatment. I was first introduced to the brand through online shopping at Revolve Clothing.com and was impressed by their product line. The company which was created by creative director Nonie Crème is famous for its "3 free" (non-toxic) product line which includes nail lacquers, hand and nail treatments, luxury lotions, and a pedicure collection.

For the best results use all three products that are mentioned above together for a long lasting manicure. Here is the process I used:
1. I started by using the nail foundation which is basically face foundation for your nails because it hides any ridges in your nails. It leaves a silky matte finish and can be worn alone.

2.I waited about 5 minutes and applied two coats of The Black Knight Nail Lacquer which is the perfect holiday nail polish. It contains black, pink, blue, and silver glitter in a black base.

3.Once that dried I completed the manicure by using the Hardwear P.D Quick Topcoat Treatment. This leaves an ultra glossy, non-toxic topcoat that leaves your nails looking wet even when they are dry. I let them sit for 5 minutes and I was done!

Due to my job, I expect a lot out of fingernail polish. I spend 99% of my day working with my hands which doesn't fair well with my mannicures. Typically they last about one day (seriously). So I tested the Butter London product to see how long it will last. I applied the product on Tuesday and by Friday my mani was still going strong! I had only 3 major chips but that was after 3 loads of dishes and dressing 12 mannequins. Pretty impressive! So to me this trio is pretty heavy duty. Butter London gets a 10 on our fabulous radar!

Butter London products are available at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport flagship store, www.butterlondon.com, and in fashion boutiques, specialty retailers, and beauty apothecaries around the globe.

The Black Knight Nail Lacquer, $14. Hardwear P.D Quick Topcoat Treatment, $18. Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat Treatment, $18.
Special thanks to Butter London, Lauren Larkin, and Siren Public Relations Inc!
