What made you want to become a designer?
My desire to wear exactly what I wanted to wear, when I wanted to wear it, without having to go shopping with my fingers crossed hoping it existed…that’s what drove me to start designing. Working in television played a role as well, feeling confident in what you’re wearing when you’re in front of the camera is very important and designing my own outfits was a great way to ensure that type of confidence.
3 items every girl should own:
Every girl should own:
A ruched jersey dress - they are universally flattering and extremely versatile. (clearly I’m biased but my “clarice” dress is the perfect example)
A well tailored black blazer-even if it’s a $29 blazer from forever 21--bring it to the tailor, have the sleeves and the waist tapered and it will look like a million bucks!
A statement necklace-a fabulous “look at me piece” that can transform any outfit from so so to something special
Every outfit needs?Every outfit needs a chic pair of shoes!
Which celebs you would love to dressThere are 2 celebrities I wold love to dress: First Lady Michelle Obama and Duchess Katherine Middleton. They both represent the gracious side of glamour that I love so much and would look amazing in my designs.
This summer I love...Wearing lightweight jersey jumpsuits for day and night.
Who is your style icon?
I have 2 style icons. My mother Gloria Young, and designer Carolina Herrera.
My mom has a great sense of style and has always been a very sharp dresser. She and my father both taught me SO many valuable lessons about why it’s important to take pride in how you look. She also taught me at a very young age that your clothes say a lot about you (whether you want them to or not) so make sure you’re sending the intended message.
As far as Mrs. Herrera goes-I love everything she designs, everything she wears and everything she represents as a woman and a brand. I wish that I (and every little girl in the world) could grow up to be as chic, poised and elegant as she is.
What is your favorite store?
I pretty much shop at 4 stores: Intermix, Barney’s, The Gap and TJ Maxx. The majority of what I wear is from my own collection but those 4 stores in particular carry the stylish basics and gorgeous accessories I need to round out my wardrobe.
Most challenging part of your job?
Everything, KIDDING! Seriously, most of my job is challenging and that’s why I love what I do.
Biggest highlight as a designer so far?
The biggest highlight of designing is, and always will be, seeing someone look and feel their very best in something I designed. Its also always fun when the entertainment magazines compare 2 celebrities wearing the same dress designed by moi.
Also being declared the "the Rocky Balboa of fashion" by the New York Times was a very proud moment in my career".

What are your favorite beauty tips?
1. Lash extensions are a great way to look made up without actually wearing any makeup. My favorites are by Xtend-a-lash.
