I spent my day running around trying to get my last minute Easter supplies and it was surprisingly warm so I finally got to break out my tank top and cut off shorts! I found these cute boots at the bottom of a crate in my closet after spring cleaning and they were perfect for running around. I plan on spending the rest of  my weekend hunting for a Polaroid camera and decorating Easter eggs (random list of activities).

How are you spending your Easter?

Trend Report: Backpacks

Since it's festival season, there is one item that is a must have: a backpack! If you are like me you would never think to carry a backpack unless you are a student but these cute bags are anything but a school accessory. They are easy to carry and allow you to be hands free when you are dancing the day away! Here are a few of my favorite picks at every price!

What is your handbag of accessory of choice for the upcoming festivals?

I can't explain how excited I am that it's spring and it finally feels like it!

What are you most excited for?

I'm happy that the days are getting longer and I can spend more time outside taking hikes and enjoying the sunshine.

I'm also excited that my new glasses finally came. I've been squinting at everything for the past few days and now I can see! Oddly enough, I've been wearing specs since the first grade and I think I only have one picture of myself wearing them. I always thought glasses made me look frumpy but I've accepted them as a part of my "look" so I'll make an effort to wear them more!

Happy Monday! (Who really says that?)

I wore this outfit out to dinner with my best friend a few weeks ago (where our waiter kept shouting there's a shark in the room... how original)  and again to run errands today. I'm not really a fan of wearing heels to run errands but I think adding a pop of color to this outfit made it fun and less boyish!

P.S. - I'm totally in love with movies and TV so I love finding a great t-shirt referencing a classic like Jaws. Hello Steven Spielberg!!

Drink me, I'm Irish!

Friday, March 15, 2013

Saint Patrick's day is coming up this weekend (Sunday to be exact) and it's always fun to dress up in green and drink with your friends all day! If you are having a party with friends or are not sure what to order while you are out, here are two really great drink options (alcoholic / non alcoholic) that will have everyone thinking you are Irish!

For the non drinker:

Green Lantern (non alcoholic)

What You'll Need

1 cup fresh parsley
1 cup cold water
club soda
1/2 teaspoon grated lime zest
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup lime juice
Lime slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions
1. Put all ingredients, except the soda, into a blender. Cover and puree for 60 seconds.
2. Strain the blender puree through a sieve into a glass or other transparent pitcher.
3. Serve the beverage over ice adding club soda to fill the glasses.
4. Garnish with a slice of lime on the rim of the glass.

Dublin Old Fashioned (For the gal who likes a stiff drink...take it easy)

What You'll Need

Ice
1/2 teaspoon sugar
5 mint leaves
1/4 oz. lime juice
1.5 oz. whiskey
1/8 oz. absinthe (Less is probably a good idea)
Shaker

Instructions

1. Fill a glass with ice and set it aside.
2. Place 5 mint leaves, 1/4 oz. lime juice, and 1/2 teaspoon sugar together at the bottom of the shaker.
3. Whiskey and ice (from glass) to shaker and shake until it is mixed well.
4. Pour a VERY small amount of absinthe into the glass and swirl it around until it coats the whole glass, then pour the absinthe out.
5. Strain the shaker into the glass and top it off with club soda!

Remember to drink responsibly! If you drink, take a taxi or walk home! Be safe and have fun!

LAFW: Jen Awad Fall / Winter 2013 Runway Show

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

On March 9th, I went to Jen Awad's Fall / Winter 2013 Runway show at Siren Studio in LA. The collection featured lace, velvet, and sheer fabrics to create the perfect balancing point between masculine and feminine dressing. The romantic tone of the line was set by deep and rich hues of blue purple, black and white. As always, Jen Awad found a way to stay classic and push the boundaries.

What was your favorite look from the collection?

South by South West Survival Guide

Monday, March 11, 2013

1.  Headbands / hair ties: You can't be a sexy dancing machine with your hair flying all over the place.  It's always a good idea to have a headband or a hair tie on hand to tie your locks back and still look cute! Tie Dye Angela Headbands, Twistbands.

2. Crossbody purse: A hands free bag is the best thing you can have so your hands aren't restricted. It's best to have a bag that is small enough not to be in the way and big enough to fit your cell phone and lip gloss and passes to events. Basic fringe bag, Whiting & Davis.

3.  Cute and comfortable shoes: Don't be the girl that ends the in the night leaning on her friends shoulder or walking barefoot in the street (we've all been there!). Wear a shoe that is comfortable and will allow you to stand and walk around for hours.
Maci Sandal, Dr.Scholl's or Maya Sandal, Ipanema.

4. Band tees or tank tops: The weather in Austin, Texas is suppose to be pretty mild so it is great to have a fun shirt to show off your favorite music artist. Hint: don't wear a color that turns darker if it gets wet (no one likes sweat stains). Snoop Dogg Muscle Tee. Forever 21.

5. Denim shorts: The best thing ever invented! Need I say more?? Nymph short, Eugene is my Middle Name.

6. Backup battery: This will relieve some of the anxiety of trying to save your battery. You'll need all of your battery to take tons of Instagram pictures and tweet your life away! Printed backup battery, J. Crew.

7. A solid Manicure: Pick a fun vibrant color that shows off how excited you are to be at the most influential media festival in the world. I would recommend that you bring the bottle with you to your hotel just in case you get a chip!
"Groove is in the Heart" nail color. Deborah Lippmann.

Here are a few other tips on how to survive a festival:

- If you are going with friends make sure to have a meet up point just in case the group gets separated. Trying to find two people in a crowd of 30,000 is not fun!

- Write down contact phone numbers on a piece of paper so if your cell phone dies you will be able to call people (lets face it who really memorizes phone numbers anymore??)

- Don't wear anything tight or restricting! There will be tons of walking and standing so you want to be comfortable and in a good mood to dance and shop.

I went shopping in Santa Monica last week and I found this amazing dress from Brandy Melville. It's a little revealing (if you aren't feeling so daring you can wear a bandeau underneath) but perfect to wear to the beach or an easy day just hanging out. I can't explain how excited I am that spring is just days away and the days are getting longer and the weather is heating up!

You can see a tutorial on my turquoise stone inspired nails here.
