Style File: Solange Knowles

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Solange Knowles is known for her great fashion sense, mixing patterns, and huge natural hair. She is the master of wearing bold prints and colors and still looking appropriate for red carpet events or spending a day on the beach!

Here's are a few great items to help steal her look:

1. Lattice Back Dress, American Eagle. 2. Pink tribal print cut out tube dress, River Island. 3. Floral Pant suit, Costa Blanca. (Similar one here) 4. Electric Bloom Peplum Bustier, Nasty Gal. 5. Electric bloom peplum pant, Nasty Gal.
Tips on how to wear bold prints:
1. Pick the right print for your body size. If you are petite choose a smaller print so you don't overwhelm your frame. If you are a curvy girl, choose a larger print. It's all about proportion!
2. Find a solid. Keep the print as the focus and use solid color accessories. A bright colored bag or shoe is perfect to balance out your outfit.
3. Choose one or the other. If you aren't sure about wearing head to toe print it's always a good idea to pick one or the other. Choose a printed bottom and a solid top or a printed top and a solid bottom. It's all about what makes you comfortable!

In celebration for Coachella, I attended the Forever 21's Desert Disco pool party at The Saguaro in Palm Springs. I had so much fun hanging out by the pool, catching up with old friends, and listening to Sky Ferreira DJ.

Mani Monday: Festival Feather Nails

Monday, April 8, 2013

A pair of scissors
A feather
Nude nail polish

1. Paint your nails with two coats of a nude nail polish (I used Yummy Mummy by butter London)
2. Paint your nails with one layer of base coat. (It's important to use a base coat to hold the feathers down)
3. Cut feathers to fit you nails and place them on wet paint. (It might be easier to use a pair of tweezers to lay the feathers on your nails.)
4. Use a top coat and enjoy the compliments!

All Eyes on Me

Saturday, April 6, 2013

I had so much fun at the Paid Dues Music Festival that I forgot to take a proper picture of my outfit! I decided to dress a little grungy since I knew I would be dancing in a field of dirt for countless hours!
What else would I wear other than a Tupac shirt to a hip hop concert?

Shirt: Tupac muscle tee |  Skirt: Guess (similar version here) |  Sneakers: Converse  |  Flannel shirt: similar version here and here.

Here are a few examples of trends that are huge this festival season!
 Candy Colored Hair
Crop tops
Bold Graphic Prints
Animal Prints
What is your favorite fashion trend for festival season??

It's Paid Dues!

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

On Saturday I went to the Paid Dues Music Festival which is an independent hip hop music festival thrown by Murs and Guerilla Nation. It's thrown in San Bernardino, CA and features a lot of upcoming rap artist and often has a huge headliner to close the show.

This years artist performed on 3 stages and included Mobb Deep, Trinidad James, Tech 9, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Mobb Deep, Scarface, Talib Kweli, Back Hippy and Kendrick Lamar, Dom Kennedy, and many more!

The festival was huge and went on for days!
My new friends who stopped me to have a debate on who is the better rapper: Tupac or Biggie Smalls.
My best friend Palisa who got the tickets for us! We are covered in dust at this point but we had a blast!

The schedule of performers! We managed to make it to see the last song of almost everyone! It was hard to keep track of everyone because we kept getting carried away dancing.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed on the main Paid Dues stage! I was surprised that he put on such a good show because the only song I knew was Thrift Shop!

Kendrick Lamar and his group Black Hippy closed down the festival!

Kendrick Lamar was the headliner and was amazing! He performed a few songs including Swimming Pools and Poetic Justice.
What are your favorite hip hop artist?
