With the release of Pantone's 2014 Color of the year, I was excited to find the perfect items in the purple hue. Purple is associated with wealth, wisdom, and independence. It is also flattering to many skin tones and is extremely calming. Don't mind if I do!

Fabulous Girl's guide to: DIY Merry Christmas Garland

Saturday, December 21, 2013

It is no secret that I am overly festive when it comes to the holiday season. I love to come home feeling like I am in a Christmas wonderland and I am always looking for new DIY projects to personalize my decorations. Last week I came across this amazing tutorial from Lauren Conrad for a glitter garland and decided to give it a try! Here is how to make your own glitter garland to add some sparkle to your holiday season!

What you'll need:
  • Poster board
  • Glitter
  • Twine or fishing line
  • Glue or spray adhesive
  • X-ACTO Knife
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  1. Using a ruler, draw or trace your letters onto the posterboard. Make sure that all of your letters are the same size (I used a template to make sure that all of my letters were similar.)
  2. Cut your letters using the X-ACTO knife. Scissors work great as well!
  3. Spread glue or spray adhesive on your letters and sprinkle with glitter. This is the best step and the messy step so do this outside or with a ton of newspaper!
  4. String your letters together with twine or fishing line and tape the string to the back of the letters.
  5. Hang the letters and prepare to be complimented!

Fabulous Girl's Guide to: Surviving Holiday Work Parties

Sunday, December 8, 2013

I experienced my first corporate holiday work event last year and I had no idea what to expect. My first thought about a holiday work event was stuffy people drinking from champagne flutes while discussing numbers and current fashion trends. When I arrived it was the exact opposite, the party was sponsored by an alcohol brand, house music was blasting, and people I reported to couldn't even stand up straight!

While most parties aren't this wild, it made me realize that there is an art on how to conduct yourself at a holiday event. Here is a survival guide on how to dress and a few tips on what to do once you get to the party:
1.Jude Clutch, House of Harlow. 2.Pure Red Lipstick, NYX. 3.Chain Bracelet, Forever 21. 4.3 Chainz Necklace, PacSun. 5.Peplum Dress, Luna B. 6.Black Heel, Zara. 7.Lucite Box Clutch, Nasty Gal. 8.Toggle to the Top, Essie.

So now that you have an outfit here are a few rules for your holiday event:
1. Show up!
It might seem easy to skip out on a holiday work event but trust that it will not go unnoticed. Unless you have a great reason to miss the event you should go for at least an hour to show that you

2. Have fun and know your limits.
The point of a party is...to party! Employers are now looking for people who are more than just great workers they want you to have a great personality as well. Showing that you can handle yourself in a social setting when drinks are free and flowing and you are off the clock could win you points with your coworkers and your boss!

If you are allergic to a certain food do not eat it just to impress someone at your company. Feel free to ask the server or bartender what is in the food or drink you are consuming but try not to make a scene.

Also, remind yourself that you are at a work function and not a house party so stay clear of pounding too many drinks (my favorite is Cranberry and vodka), swinging from ANYTHING, and don't drink and drive!

3. Work the room, darling!
Have a home base (friends that you are familiar with) to spend most of the night with but don't forget to acknowledge other people in the room. This is a great time to start up a conversation with the IT team (comes in handy when your computer crashes right before a meeting) or make small talk with someone you pass by everyday but say more than good morning. Show your wonderful personality and the ability to talk about things that aren't work related!

What rules do you live by when attending holiday work events?
